A few years ago, my friend, let’s call him Jude, had been denied a US visa so many times, that he had gotten quite frustrated, or should I say, creative. So he came up with an action plan. He scheduled his next visa interview for some time around Valentine’s Day, and he went to the consulate on that day bearing gifts. He brought a box of chocolates and a bouquet to the sweet consular officer who would interview him. He was optimistic. Today was the day he would finally get his visa. So what happened? Well, at the entrance, he wasn’t allowed to bring in anything except his interview documents, he had to give the chocolates and flowers away. And moments later… boom! Rejection!

A lot of people are confused about international travel by flight. Various questions arise for many: what’s the first step? What are the requirements? Who do I talk to about a visa? What should I memorize for the visa interview? What documents should I bring to the airport to get on a plane?

So, after traveling solo abroad for a year, and making terrible mistakes, like trying to board a plane with a pocketknife attached to my keychain, I’ve made a travel guide. So, back to my friend. When I published this book, I went over to his house and personally handed him a signed copy. His response? “Ah! I needed this ten years ago! But thank you!”
